PC for responsible use of paramilitary forces
New Delhi, May 21: Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram urged the paramilitary forces to tackle violence with “patience, tact and understanding", . He also stressed on the point of using the paramilitary forces responsibly.
“If the state uses it force, it has to be used responsibly. The state cannot use excessive force. The state cannot use force against unarmed and defenseless people. These are the limitations that come with the right to use force,". Mr. Chidambaram said at the Investiture ceremony of the Border Security Force (BSF).
He said if the forces will not be used responsibly then the people will question the legitimacy of the state to use force.
He also said violence is not new to India or any other country and that we must understand we are living in a troubled world and a volatile neighborhood.
He also highlighted that the country has seen an 18-month period sans any major terror attack, except the Pune blast, or any major incident of communal violence.
The Home Minister took a pledge against violence and terrorism and also awarded the President"s gallantry and police medals to the BSF personnel.
