Mumbai: Navy sepoy arrested for molesting girl

Mumbai, Apr 23: After army jawans were arrested for gang-raping a Pune college student, a Navy sepoy has now been detained for molesting a 17-year-old girl in Mumbai.

The incident took place near INS Shikara gate in Colaba in south Mumbai late on Wednesday, Apr 22 night when the sepoy chased the girl and her father and started touching the girl inappropriately.

When the father tried to stop the man, the sepoy assaulted him.

The accused has been identified as Vikramsing Uddamsingh, who is presently posted at INS Shikara at Colaba.

The father of the girl registered a police complaint against the 45-year-old Uddamsingh.

The Colaba police nabbed the accused on Thursday, Apr 23 morning.

This is not the first time personnel of the country's defence forces have been accused of sexual abuse. On Apr 9, two army jawans were detained for raping a 19-year-old college girl. The jawans allegedly took turns to rape the girl near Pune's Swaraj garden after they beat up her boyfriend.
