Qatar to ban visas on arrival for US, UK citizens
Dubai, Apr 9: Qatar has decided not to grant visas on arrival to citizens of several countries, including UK and the US from May 1.
The UK embassy said, "From May 1, 2010, British passport holders visiting Qatar must obtain a visa before their arrival in Qatar."
Earlier, British and US nationals were among passport holders of 33 countries who were issued entry visas upon arrival at airport
It advised Americans travelling to Qatar after Apr 30 to consult either the Qatari government's online portal or the nearest Qatari embassy for details about how to apply for a visa.
Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, France and Italy are among other countries affected by this new rule.
However, it was not clear what prompted this change of policy. According to a source, it was a move against countries that require Qatari citizens to apply for visas before travel.
