Man sentenced to death for killing snoring roomate

Beijing: A Chinese university student was awarded a suspended death sentence for killing his sleeping roommate because he snore too much.

According to local media, the court in Changchun, capital of northeast Jilin province, pronounced the sentence on Friday, Mar 26, after 24-year-old Guo Liwei admitted to stabbing his roomate to death.

In case of good behavior shown by the convict, the suspended death sentence can be converted to life imprisonment after two years.

Report said that Guo stabbed his roomate Zhao Yan in their room at Jilin Agricultural University, after his repeated complain to Yan about his snoring failed on deaf ears.

Guo had also posted a video of him snoring on a university website, which increased the tension between them.

The Changchun Intermediate People's Court has ordered Guo to pay a compensation of 270,000 yuan ($40,000) to Yan's family.
