1676 holy book preaching women to abstain from laughter up for sale

London, Mar 4 (ANI): A 1676 holy book, which advised women- not to laugh too much, wear sexy, see-through outfits and using rush into second marriages- is being put up for sale.

The Rules of Holy Living, was written by clergyman Jeremy Taylor, is coming up for sale on March 25.

And auctioneer Charles Hanson of Derby expects that the work would fetch up to 1,000 pounds.

Ladies are advised to "abstain from wanton laughter and uncomely jests."

"Never talk to a man merely to pass the time away," the Daily Express quoted the book as saying.

It goes on top say: Clothing must "never be light or amorous, never discover nakedness through a thin veil".

And "it is against modesty for a woman to marry a second husband as long as she bears a burden by the first or to admit a second love while her funeral tears are not wiped away from her cheeks".

"It's fascinating to see from this book how much attitudes have changed," said Hanson.

He added: "The world today would probably be a better place if more people lived their lives as this book suggests." (ANI)
