Auckland, Mar. 3 (ANI): Following claims that Indian-origin cabbie Hiren Mohini's murderer could have fled to China, Auckland Police is in talks with international law enforcement agencies to locate him.

However, the officer in charge of the investigation, Detective Senior Sergeant Hywel Jones, has refused to confirm a broadcaster's claim that the suspected killer was in China.

"We never said he was in China. We put out a press release on Saturday after that helpful story from TV3," Stuff.co.nz quoted Jones, as saying.

Meanwhile, police released CCTV footage showing a man getting into the taxi driven by Mohini shortly before he was murdered.

A member of the public then notified police of the man's identity.

"We're working on it basically, we'll let you know when we've caught him," Jones says.

Mohini, 39, died after he was repeatedly stabbed in the Auckland suburb of Mt Eden by a passenger he had picked up in the central business district. (ANI)
