Huge demand for Indian tailors in Malaysia
Johor Baru (Malaysia), Feb.16 (ANI): There is a shortage of Indian tailors in Malaysia's Johor Baru state.
According to The Star, some 2,000 traditional Indian tailoring shops are appealing to the Malaysian Government to allow them to hire foreigners, as there is a shortage of skilled local workers.
"Most of the workers with traditional sewing skills are foreigners from India and Pakistan," Malaysian Indian Business Association president P. Sivakumar told The Star yesterday.
He said many representatives from the industry had approached him on the issue, worried that they would have to shut down if the Government did not relax its regulations.
Sivakumar added that although most of these businesses preferred to hire Malaysians, there was a lack of local workers with the necessary skills.
"We want the Government to consider their plight as it is a unique problem," he said. (ANI)
