London, Feb 02 (ANI): Carla Bruni has canceled her participation in Italy's San Remo music contest over a song that apparently insults her husband/French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

Seemingly, the former model was miffed at a song titled 'Meno male', by Simone Cristicchi, which took a dig at the political leader for letting his wife deviate his attention from political problems.

TV presenter Massimo Giletti announced the reason behind Bruni's withdrawal on the state channel Rai Uno.

"Carla Bruni has decided not to participate in the Festival of San Remo, where she was to have sung with Gino Paoli on the Thursday evening," the Independent quoted him as saying on the show.

He added: "Among the explanations is the possibility that her appearance was vetoed by the Elysée Palace in annoyance at the song that mocks President Sarkozy."

Gilletti claimed he had seen evidence for the claim in the form of an email from Bruni's staff.

He said: "Of course I wouldn't invent such a thing in order to say it on television."

San Remo festival is scheduled to run from 16 to 21 February. (ANI)
