Margaret Thatcher 'went on 28 eggs a week diet for 1979 elections'!

London, Jan 30 (ANI): Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher went on a high-protein diet of up to 28 eggs a week for the 1979 election campaign, her private papers have revealed.

The famous politician wanted to look her best during her campaign and went on the diet in a bid to lose 20lbs in just two weeks.

She used to start her day with a breakfast of grapefruit and eggs, with another two eggs for each weekday lunch, and two more for dinner twice a week.

The details emerged after a yellowing typewritten sheet detailing the Mayo Clinic diet was found inside her pocket diary.

Lady T, dubbed "Milk Snatcher" for ending free school milk in the early 1970s, had to demonstrate her famous iron will by resisting any food not listed.

The note warned not to follow the diet for more than two weeks, reports The Sun.

Private files from May to December 1979 - Lady T's first months as PM - were released yesterday.

The files, released by the Margaret Thatcher Foundation, can be read online at www.margaretthatcher.org. (ANI)
