Rajapaksa wins elections: Sri Lankan media
Colombo, Jan 27: The President Vs Army Chief war in the Sri Lankan presidential elections came to an end with the president Mahinda Rajapaksa emerging victorious.
The state-run Rupavahini television reports that Rajapaksa has won the re-election after decisively beating his rival Sarath Fonseka on Wednesday, Jan 27.
The president called for an election two years prior to the scheduled time after the government's triumph over the rebel outfit Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
Rajapaksa expected to gain from the Sinhalese votes.
However, the former amry chief Fonseka is also considered as a crucial force behind the defeat of LTTE.
