Oz: Indian accused of raping lingerie model

Syndney, Jan 18: An Indian is facing trial for allegedly raping a 23-year-old aspiring lingerie model in Australia in 2009.

Paul Rajendran established a fake MySpace profile and falsely claimed that he worked for the lingerie firm La Perla to arrange a meeting with the woman in Mar 2009 and then raped her in a nearby office block, prosecutors told a court on Monday, Jan 18.

At the start of Rajendran's trial in Sydney, prosecutor Eric Balodis told jurors that on the day of the incident both of them consumed several drinks at a bar and discussed the possibility of her modelling for the company.

The prosecutor went on to allege that Rajendran, who took the woman an office block in Hunter Street and laid out La Perla pictures on a desk, kissed her.

The intoxicated woman who said that she did not meet him for 'that' and was too scared, the prosecutor is quoted as saying in a news report.

The report went on to say that the accused later knelt between her legs and had sexual intercourse with the woman.

"I'll make you into a really good model if you don't tell anyone," Balodis told the court.

The Indian has also been slapped with bodily harm charges relating to abrasions said to have been found on the woman's back after the attack.

Following this incident, the police has warned aspiring models against using the Internet as a launch pad into the modelling industry.
