Fierce cold boosts sale of heating gadgets in Srinagar

Srinagar, Jan 11 (ANI): With mercury dipping to sub-zero temperatures, residents of Srinagar, has been thronging shops dealing in various kinds of heating gadgets.

"It is very cold and there is need for heating systems to keep us warm," said Muzafar Ahmad, a customer.

The shopkeepers are making the most of the situation for their cash registers to ring profits through good sales.

"Prices of blower ranges from 450 to 500 rupees and maximum goes to 2000 rupees. Then there are halogen heaters ranging between 700 to 800 rupees and maximum it goes to 1300 to 1400 rupees. The good quality comes at 2,000 rupees. There is a preference for halogen heaters than blowers," said Parvez Ahmad, shopkeeper.

Many places in Kashmir valley experienced temperature as low as minus 5 degrees Celsius as on Sunday.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) attributed the prevailing weather conditions to western disturbances that caused snowfall in the hill states.(ANI)
