US judge declines to hear Rana's bail plea
Chicago, Jan 7: A US judge refused to hear the bail plea of the Pakistan-origin terror suspect Tahawwur Hussain Rana citing that an expected indictment against him may send the case to a different judge.
US district judge Matthew Kennelly in the US District Court, Northern District of Illinois here on Thursday, Jan 7, declined to hear Rana's appeal against his detention.
This was based on the prosecutor's argument that they are working towards obtaining an indictment against Rana, for possible links to 26/11 terror attacks, by Jan 14.
If this indictment was obtained Rana's case could be handled by a different judge.
Taking this into consideration judge Kennelly posted the bail plea hearing to Jan 21, as he was not certain he would continue to be in charge of the case after the indictment.
