Suicide bombing rocks Russia, 6 policemen killed

Makhachkala, Jan 6: A suicide bombing targeting a police state in Russia's restive North Caucasus has claimed lives of at least six policemen and left over 16 injured.

A suicide bomber blew up an explosives-packed car at the gates of a traffic police station on the outskirts of Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan on Wednesday, Jan 6.

City police chief Shamil Guseinov informed that the police were able to stop the bomber from entering the station, thus preventing further causalities.

This reminded the country of the Aug 2009 bombing in a neighboring republic, in which 24 people were killed and over 200 were wounded.

North Caucasus has seen a spurt in violence over the year of 2009.
