London, Jan 2 (ANI): Over 20 percent of Brit workers find their offices dirty, reveals a new survey.

The survey involving 1000 workers, commissioned by support service firm resource, showed two out of five firms had cut back on cleaning and maintaining offices because of the recession.

One in 10 of the respondents described their office toilets as "filthy", while a quarter said colleagues did not clean up after themselves.

Over a third whined that their working environment was unsafe.

Nearly half of those surveyed said they were embarrassed about clients or customers visiting their office because of a lack of cleanliness.

"Managers must make employee wellbeing an absolute priority. Understandably, businesses are looking to reduce overheads, however neglecting proper cleaning and maintenance will only add to the cost of sickness absence during the recession," the Telegraph quoted Esther Wassmann, managing director of resource GB, as saying.

"From the results it is clear that the cuts made to cleaning and maintenance budgets are having an impact on the workforce and could be impacting on the health of employees as well as putting off potential customers at a time when every business should be trying its utmost to attract new business.

"Legally, employers have a duty of care to provide employees with a safe working place, so the fact that so many people consider their workplace unsafe and their colleagues dangerous is very worrying," Wassmann added. (ANI)
