Indian convicted in Spain for terror plot

London/ Mumbai, Dec 18: An Indian business has been jailed for eight-and-a-half-years for plotting terror attacks in Barcelona, along with 10 other Pakistanis.

Roshan Jamal Khan has been charged for planning to bomb Barcelona metro.

"The indiscriminate aim is evidence of the terrorist nature of the attacks," the court said.

Friends and families of Khan has compared his arrest to that of an Indian doctor in 2007.

Dr.Mohammad Haneef was wrongly arrested by the Australian authority on charges of suspected terror links and was later released due to lack of evidence against him.

"The Australian authorities regret the arrest of Dr. Haneef despite an incident of terror taking place. On the contrary, the Spanish authorities arrested Roshan on the basis of fantasy of some self-styled James Bond who wanted his 15 minutes of fame," said his Mumbai-based brother Mehboob Khan on his blogspot before Monday's, Dec 14, conviction.

Citing that Khan's arrest has come as a surprise, Mehmood said that their lawyer Salles will file an appeal before the Christmas-New Year holidays begin Europe.
