Bomb blast in northern Myanmar kills 7
Bangkok, Dec 18: At least seven people have been killed and 11 others injured when a bomb exploded in northern Myanmar, state media reported on Friday, Dec 18.
The bomb went off late on Wednesday, Dec 16, during New Year celebrations in Phapon, a town in Kayin State, about 190 km (120 miles) northeast of Myanmar's biggest city, Yangon.
According to state-controlled newspapers, "It is learnt that the time bomb was planted by KNU (Karen National Union) terrorist insurgent group."
The KNU is one of the biggest of the ethnic groups that have been fighting against the government for greater autonomy since independence from Britain in 1948.
