Pak minister rebuffs US demands of doing more against extremists
Lahore, Dec. 16 (ANI): Notwithstanding continuous US demands that Islamabad has to 'do more' against extremists operating from inside the country, Pakistan has said that it would only adopt policies which are essential to protect its national interests.
Speaking in a television show, State Minister for Interior Affairs Tasneem Qureshi said Pakistan would not take notes from any foreign country and that it would not follow any 'do more' instructions from the US.
Qureshi said the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) has always tried to resolve issues through dialogue.
"That is why the ruling party had tried to resolve the Taliban issue through dialogue but unfortunately a peaceful resolution did not materialise," The Daily Times quoted Qureshi, as saying.
He said that it was important that India and Pakistan resume bilateral peace talks as soon as possible, besides devising a joint strategy against terrorism. (ANI)
