Cyprus: Former president's body stolen from grave
Nicosia, Dec 11: The mortal remains of Former Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos was stolen from his grave just a day ahead of the leader's death anniversary.
"The grave of the former president has been violated and the body robbed. We are still investigating", police spokesman Michalis Katsounotos said on Friday, Dec 11.
Police have cordoned off the area around the leader's grave in the Deftera village cemetery in a southwestern suburb of the Cypriot capital, Nicosia.
The investigators believe that that the body was either taken on Thursday, Dec 10 night or early on Friday, Dec 11.
Papadopoulos, who has served as President from 2003 until March 2008, died in Dec 2008 from lung cancer at age 74.
