Turkey urges Muslims to close Swiss bank accounts
Ankara, Dec 3: In retaliation to the Switzerland's ban on construction of mosque minarets in Nov 2009, Turkish minister has instructed Muslims worldwide to close down their Swiss bank accounts.
"I am certain this vote will prompt our brothers from Muslim countries who keep their money and investments in Swiss banks to review their decision," said Egemen Bagis, Turkish minister for European Affairs, adding that they are welcome to invest in banks in Turkey which have been unaffected by global economic recession.
Switzerland imposed a ban on the construction of the minarets on the ground that the approval for minarets that symbolises rising Muslim political power would transform it into a Muslim country in the future.
The ban was approved by 57. 5 percent million voters and 22 out of 26 cantons of Switzerland.
