Protest to be launched against 'harassment' of Malaysian-Indian businessman

Bentong (Malaysia), Nov. 28 (ANI): The Pahang Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has decided to launch a protest against the Temerloh Municipal Council for its alleged harassment of Malaysian-Indian businessman Subramaniam Gopal.

The Star Online quoted the Chamber's chairman M. Davendran as saying that the municipal council seemed to be "taking revenge" against mini-market owner, Gopal.opal, who has been charged twice of running his business without a licence, would be charged again on Dec 8.

On previous occasions, he was given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal.

Davendran, who is also a Sabai assemblyman and the sole Indian representative in the state, claimed that he and Subramaniam had discussed the issue with the council president in April.

"The president said he would look into it and come to an amicable solution. But I was shocked to read in the newspapers that Subramaniam was taken to court." he said.

He added that the council should heed the views of community leaders and academicians and withdraw the charges against Gopal. (ANI)
