Simple test to predict a person's likelihood of breaking hip
London, November 20 (ANI): Researchers have come up with a questionnaire that will help determine an individual's chances of breaking their hips.
Experts at the University of Nottingham have developed the system of QFractureScores for patients at risk of osteoprosis, or brittle bone disease.
The system can speculate the possibilities of broken bone for a period of next ten years.
"These new algorithms can predict risk of fracture in primary care populations in the UK without laboratory measurements and are therefore suitable for use in both clinical settings and for self assessment," the Telegraph quoted lead author Julia Hippisley-Cox, Professor of Clinical Epidemiology and Clinical Practice, University of Nottingham, as saying.
She added: "QFractureScores could be used to identify patients at high risk of fracture who might benefit from interventions to reduce their risk."
The researchers assessed data from over two million people in Britain and their history of broken bones for setting up the questionnaire.
The questions include:
Do you have asthma?
Are you taking steroid tablets regularly?
Have you had a heart attack, angina, stroke or TIA (a mini-stroke with full recovery within 24 hrs)?
Do you a history of falls?
Do you have chronic liver disease?
Do you have rheumatoid arthritis?
Do you have type 2 diabetes?
The findings were published in the British Medical Journal. (ANI)
