Bengaluru Hotels to Shut From Tomorrow March 10 as Commercial LPG Supply Stops

Hotels across Bengaluru are preparing to shut operations from March 10 after an unexpected disruption in the supply of commercial LPG cylinders used for cooking. The decision has raised concerns about food access for thousands of residents who depend on affordable hotel meals every day.

The announcement came from the Bangalore Hotels Association, which said hotel kitchens cannot function without a steady gas supply. With deliveries reportedly halted, many restaurants and small eateries say they have no option but to suspend operations.

Why Bengaluru hotels are shutting

According to the association, oil companies have stopped delivering LPG cylinders meant for commercial use. Members claim the halt came without prior warning, despite earlier assurances that gas supply would remain stable for several weeks.

Industry representatives say the hotel sector plays an essential role in the city's daily life, providing affordable meals for office workers, students, travellers and families.

They warn that a prolonged shutdown could affect vulnerable groups the most, including senior citizens, patients visiting hospitals and students living in hostels or paying guest accommodations.

Hotel industry warns of wider impact

The Bangalore Hotels Association said the sudden stoppage of LPG deliveries is a major blow to the hospitality sector, which is already dealing with rising operating costs.

Industry leaders pointed out that oil companies had previously indicated that gas supply would remain uninterrupted for around 70 days. The abrupt halt has therefore caught many hotel owners off guard, leaving them with limited cooking fuel.

Restaurants and lodges across the city are expected to suspend kitchen operations starting March 10 unless supplies are restored quickly.

Appeal to government and oil companies

The association has urged the central government and concerned ministries to intervene and ensure that commercial LPG deliveries resume at the earliest.

Hotel owners have also requested financial support if the disruption continues for an extended period, warning that prolonged closures could result in economic losses for thousands of small businesses.

Residents may need alternatives for meals

If the shutdown continues, many Bengaluru residents may have to rely on home cooking, tiffin services or alternative food outlets for their daily meals.

For a city where eating out is a routine part of daily life, the temporary closure of hotel kitchens could disrupt the food habits of office workers, students and visitors across Bengaluru.

The hotel industry has said services will resume only after commercial LPG cylinder supply returns to normal.
