Turkey welcomes Darfur accused: PM
Istanbul, Nov 9: Turkey Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Nov 8, that it would welcome former President Omar al-Beshir despite the Darfur charge.
Permitting the former President to join the 59-nation Istanbul summit to be held on Nov 9, Erdogan said that the nation respects human rights and it would not hesitate to act against al-Beshir if the atrocities done against the African residents in Darfur are proven against him.
"If there were such a thing in Darfur, we would be chasing this to the end," Erdogan said, adding that it is difficult to believe that a person of Muslim faith could indulge in acts of genocide.
Al-Beshir has been accused of orchestrating a campaign of rape, murder, torture and forced expulsion against the African residents in Darfur.
