Malay-Indian political parties urged to avoid 'inflating' membership numbers

Kuala Lumpur, Oct 19(ANI): PPP vice-president Dr Loga Bala Mohan has asked political parties representing the Indian community in Malaysia to stop deceiving the public with exaggerated figures of their membership.

He said that if the claims of the political parties are to be believed, then all of the 1.8 million Indians in the country were already members of these parties.

"Many of these leaders claim to have the support of about 100,000 to 200,000 Indians, but can they substantiate the claims?" The Star quoted Dr Mohan, as saying.

"They should stop playing with figures, merely to gain political mileage and for their personal interests," he added.

Dr Mohan further advised the Indian community to unite and carefully determine their future instead of relying on new political parties for their best.

"The Indians must be focused on what they want and find ways to achieve it, rather than allow people to claim to have their support," he said.

Dr Mohan also said that though the support provided by Indian-based parties and leaders was good, multiple parties could be detrimental to the community in the long run.

"These parties may be split in their views and demands for the community. If one party succeeds in getting education aid for its supporters, what will happen to the remaining groups of Indians who do not support it?" he said. (ANI)
