Lahore University students face 'kiss ban'

Islamabad, Oct 18: Students at Lahore University of Management Sciences will be stopped from expressing love in public, as the authorities have decided to ban all public displays of affection.

According to the Christian Science Monitor, the step has been taken after a student blasted another female student for giving her boyfriend a peck on the cheek during Ramzan.

Tajwar Tashfin Awan, who witnessed the kiss scene in the campus premises, documented and criticized it in e-mail to the entire university.

The LUMS Office of Student Affairs will now issue a code of conduct to ban PDAs, reports the Daily Times.

Nonetheless, the "dossier" against public displays of affection (PDA) on campus has seemingly begun the debate on how conservative Pakistani society should be.

There is an apparent difference of opinion in the student ranks and a difference in ideological beliefs among people.

Asif Akthar, the blogger who first reported the story said, "I think [the debate] signifies a conflict between different cultural identities and shows there is something unresolved there."
