Washington, Oct 13(ANI): Liz Cheney, the daughter former US Vice President Dick Cheney, has said that Nobel Peace Prize winner President Barack Obama should skip the award ceremony and instead send a mother of a fallen American soldier to show the importance of peace efforts.

On October 9, the Norwegian Nobel Committee had announced that Obama had won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize "for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples". The prize will be awarded to him at ceremony in Oslo on December 10.

"The notion that this White House says he will go to Oslo to accept this prize just adds to the farce," Politico quoted Cheney, as having told "Fox News Sunday".

"But, I do think he could send a real signal here. I think what he ought to do frankly is send a mother of a fallen American soldier to accept the prize on behalf of the U.S. military and frankly to send the message to remind the Nobel committee that each one of them sleeps soundly at night because the U.S. military is the greatest peacekeeping force in the world today,"

The award drew a mixture of praise and criticism from world leaders and media figures, as Obama is the first to be recognized in the first year of his presidency. (ANI)
