U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan could sound death-knell for Pakistan: Report
London, Oct 10(ANI): As the US forces are fighting for stability in Afghanistan, several people have raised a vital issue whether stability in Pakistan is even more crucial.
"An Afghanistan collapse will threaten the stability of this entire region - not just Pakistan, it will have a massive impact," CBS News quoted, Samina Ahmed, member of International Crisis Group, as saying.
The stability of Pakistan is always under threat, with Obama bin Laden thought to be hiding in the mountains, Taliban leader Mullah Omar believed to be protected fiercely by local tribes, and terror attacks around the country reported often, the report said.
The U.S. administration now feels that if they withdrew their forces from Afghanistan, then the extremist threat inside Pakistan may escalate.
"It's a difficult situation. It is a kind of a nightmare. So, we wouldn't want that to happen, we need Afghanistan to be stable," Major General Tariq Khan, Frontier Corps commander in Swat Valley, was quoted, as saying. (ANI)
