Rally in Koraput protesting man's death

Orissa, Sep 8: A rally protesting the death of man, who was was killed in a clash between two groups in Koraput district, is expected to heighten the tension in the tribal area, reported the police.

The Maoist-backed Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangha, is a tribal organisation, which forcibly occupied hundreds of acres of farmland from non-tribals in the district. At present, the group was divided into two warring sects.

One group is dominant in Bandhugaon block while the other is strong in Narayanpatna block.

Suresh Pindi, a tribal villager, was injured in the clash between these groups on Sunday, Sep 6. He died on Monday, Sep 7.

The Narayanpatna group planned a massive rally in the region on Tuesday Sep 8.

"We are keeping a close watch on the situation. Adequate policemen have been deployed in the region," Inspector General of Police Sanjeeb Panda told IANS.

He added that they include three companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel and three platoons of the state police.

The district headquarters of Koraput is about 500 km away from state capital Bhubaneswar.
