Ishrat's kin want action; Govt challenges report

Ahmedabad, Sep 8: After Ahmedabad Metropolitan court ruled that Ishrat Jahan was killed in fake encounter, the members of the victim on Tuesday, Sep 8, demanded harsh punishment for the culprits.

Addressing a press conference, Mushrat Jahan, sister of the victim said, "We want strictest punishment for her (Ishrat"s) killers. We can"t bring Ishrat back, but we stand vindicated."

Expressing her faith in the Indian judicial system, Mushrat said, “We were confident of getting justice." She also thanked the media saying that it was because of the media that the case could be taken forward.

Meanwhile, Gujarat government spokesperson Jay Narayan Vyas said state government will challenge the magisterial inquiry report.

He also said that the Justice Tamang report was invalid and suspects were not given chance to explain their stand.

Earlier, the Gujarat police claimed that the Ishrat along with three other male colleagues were members of the Lashkar who were on the mission to gun down Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi.
