Spain calls for 'kissing ban' to contain H1N1
Madrid, Sep 3: In an unconventional step taken by Spain to contain the H1N1 virus, the health authorities have asked the people to refraining from kissing.
The health officials have reportedly directed that Spiniards to drop the habit of greeting each other on two cheeks as a way to keep the Swine flu at bay. However, many people seem to believe that it is import to kiss while greeting.
"What would people think if I refused to return their kisses?" 40-year-old Maria was quoted as saying. "I am so used to it, I could not stop doing it."
Interestingly, the Health Minister Trinidad Jimenez still continues to greet her colleagues with a kiss despite the warning issued by the ministry.
Spainiards believe in greeting people with a hug and a kiss to express affection. But this becomes the easiest way for the virus to spread say experts.
Therefore even limiting the close contacts would help say medical experts who also pointed out the importance of the government to take initiatives like vaccinations, and informing the public on the virus as the effective ways to curb the virus from spreading.
