Mumbai: After police, buses get makeover
Mumbai, Sep 2: After a make over for the police, Mumbai is all set to roll out new buses equipped with bullet proof windows.
"For the first time in the country, public buses in Mumbai will have window panes that will be bulletproof, blast proof, fire proof and will ensure passenger safety," said Harvinder Suri, an official of the company entrusted with the task of fixing such glasses.
The proposal to fix bulletproof windows on 250 'King-Long' and 20 air-conditioned buses run by BEST has been cleared by the Brihan Mumbai Electric Transport Undertaking Standing Committee. And the 2-crore project is all set to begin from Sep 15.
Speaking about the project in the view of the ghastly 26/11 attacks of 2008, Standing Committee Chairperson of BEST Dilip Patel said, "The city has witnessed many untoward incidents in the past including terror attacks. The bulletproof glasses will help us during such incidents."
