ULFA insurgent groups getting weapons from foreign countries: Govt
New Delhi, Aug.4 (ANI): The Government on Tuesday said that the United Liberation Front of Assom (ULFA) was reportedly obtaining weapons from foreign countries.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran, in a written reply to the Lok Sabha, stated said that the arms were being smuggled in the Indian territory through Bangladesh.
The minister stated that the armed insurgent group possessed a large number of sophisticated weapons including AK-47 rifles.
Ramachandran added that deployment of security forces and modernisation of state police included the measures being taken to check the activities of the insurgent group.
He further added that vigil had been increased on the Indo-Bangladesh border and the issue had been taken up with the Bangladesh government. (ANI)
