US senator 'mistakenly' calls India a threat

Washington, Jul 27: Senator John Cornyn who is known as India's best friend in the US Senate shocked the world when he identified the country as a security threat to US. The senator, however, apologised on Sunday, Jul 26 clarifying that he 'mistakenly' bracketed India with countries like North Korea and Iran.

In a TV interview, the Republican Senator said, "US is fighting  graver threats and greater threats. From a rising India, with increased exercise of their military power; Russia; Iran, that's threatening to build a nuclear weapon; with North Korea, shooting intercontinental ballistic missiles, capable of hitting American soil."

Shortly after issuing the statement, the senator's office clarified that the senator did not mean to say India but he was referring to China.

"Senator Cornyn misspoke saying 'India' when he meant to say 'China.' Senator Cornyn regrets the mistake and apologizes for any misunderstanding this may have caused." said Kevin McLaughlin, Senator's spokesperson.
