US Senate approves 'stringed' military aid for Pakistan
Washington, July 25 (ANI): The United States has approved a 'stringed' military aid for Pakistan aimed at ensuring that the assistance is being utilized for the purpose it is actually meant for that is to counter the Taliban and Al-Qaeda.
The US Senate approved the bipartisan amendment moved by Senators Robert Menendez and Bob Corker which would need a certification by the Secretaries of State and Defence, before the funds are released.
Testifying before the House, Democrat Senator Menendez said the aid was actually in the interest of America and that it will not affect the balance of power in the region.
"The fight against these extremists is crucial for our own security, which is why we have to certify that our support is in fact doing what we intend it to do and is not being used for other purposes," The Nation quoted Menendez, as saying.
He added that it was very important that the funds provided to Pakistan from the Coalition Support Funds were in fact being directed toward those efforts for which it is meant for and not 'misdirected.' (ANI)
