One dead, thirteen injured in Varanasi stampede

Varanasi, July 22 (ANI): One person was killed and thirteen others injured in a stampede at the Dasaswamedh Ghat on Wednesday morning.

The stampede took place when a large number of people gathered at the Ghat to watch the eclipse and perform rituals.

The deceased was an 80-year-old woman.

The injured have been admitted to a district hospital.

Tens of thousands of people snaked through the narrow lanes of Varanasi and gathered for a dip in the Ganges, an act considered to lead to salvation from the cycle of life and death. (ANI)
