FM proposes 500 cr for rehabilitation of Sri Lanka

New Delhi, Jul 6: Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has proposed to allocate Rs. 500 crore for the rehabilitation of the internally displaced persons and reconstruction of the Northern and Eastern areas of Sri Lanka.

Presenting the Union Budget for the year 2009-10 in Lok Sabha today, Mukherjee said, "The Government is committed to ensure that the Sri Lankan Tamils enjoy their rights and legitimate aspirations within the territorial sovereignty and framework of Sri Lanka's Constitution."

"The Ministry of External Affairs is working closely with the Sri Lankan Government in this regard," he added.
