New Delhi, June 14(ANI): A meeting of the Joint Monitoring Committee constituted by Union Health Ministry was held in national capital on Sunday to chart the potential course of swine flu.

"The main objective of the meetings is to review the present situation. We also have discussions on measures that we have taken and what else would be required in future. Views of everyone present are taken so that we can evolve best mechanism and improve upon drawbacks, if there are any," Dr. J R Bhardawaj, of National Disaster Management Authority said addressing the media persons.

This two-day meeting that commenced on Saturday was convened in view of the 17 cases of H1N1 reported in the country.

Dr. Bhardawaj added that regular and periodical meetings are being held to review the present situation and to take preventive and corrective measures.

Further he noted that although there are less chances about this virus spreading and if at all in case of an eventual, all the medical teams are prepared to tackle the menace.

"As of now, it doesn't seem that this virus will spread and not even its mortality rate is not very high. Its death rate is not high and this very good thing about this virus. But any virus has the capability of changing its genetic characteristic very quickly," Dr. Bharadawaj said.

India has confirmed seventeen confirmed cases of HINI influenza cases and the patients have been timely and property treated.

"So from scientific world, Indian Council of Medical Research, Ministry of Health and NDMA know about the genetic variations and we are planning measures to tackle them," Dr Bhardawaj said. (ANI)
