Pak govt. allows Indian diplomats to use local registration plates on their vehicles

Islamabad, June 12 (ANI): The Pakistan government has apparently allowed Indian diplomats to use ordinary number plates on their vehicles instead of special registration plates meant for foreign diplomats, despite concerns raised over such a step by the country's security agencies.

However, the Foreign Office Spokesman Abdul Basit denied granting any such permission, saying all foreign diplomats have been provided new number plates according to a new plan.

"All diplomatic missions in Islamabad are being provided with new number plates under a new arrangement," The Dawn quoted Basit, as saying.

Foreign diplomats in Pakistan usually use a red coloured registration plate on their vehicle, but several envoys' based in Islamabad are using the simple number plates meant for local vehicles, without any authorization, to camouflage their movements in the wake of the deteriorating law and security condition of the country.

The concerned authorities have raised concerns over such unauthorised use of number plates, which could become a serious security threat.

They fear that militants could use such tactics to strike important locations or attack foreign diplomats and VIP's. (ANI)
