Tiananmen Square crackdown anniversary
New Delhi, June 5 (ANI): Indian and foreign activists took out a solidarity march on Thursday to pay homage to those who died during the Tiananmen Square movement in 1989
The march, which was followed by a candlelight vigil, saw the activists condemning the military might of China and Myanmar.
"We have come here to show solidarity with the people of China, and also because Burma in 1988 participated in the pro-democracy movement where military government cracked down brutally on more than 3000 young people. I saw these with my eyes that time and you know 10 months later in 1989 in Tiananmen Square Tibetans and Chinese students were brutality crushed by Chinese dictatorship," said Thin Thin Aung, board member, Women League of Burma.
The 1989 killings severely bruised relations between Washington and Beijing, and there were echoes of those tensions on the eve of the anniversary. (ANI)
