New Delhi, June 4 (ANI): Palaniappan Chidambaram on Thursday asserted that India is a safe place and asked United States to withdraw its travel advisory issued to its citizens against India being a safe country.

While talking to reporters, Chidambaram said that India is much safer than many countries of the world.

"If there's an advisory, then we will certainly ask the Ministry of External Affairs to speak to the United States to withdraw that advisory. India is a safe place. It's safer than many other countries of the world. I don't think there is any justification for that advisory. Thousands of tourists come to India and we look forward to welcoming them. India is a completely safe country," said Chidambaram.

Chidambaram was reacting to an 'Urgent Warden Message' posted on American Embassy website.

The United States has issued a travel advisory asking its citizens to be careful while living and traveling within India.

"The United States Mission in India wishes to urgently remind all US citizens resident in or traveling to India that there is a high threat from terrorism throughout India," the message said.

"As terror attacks are a serious and growing threat, US citizens are urged to always practice good security, including maintaining a heightened situational awareness and a low profile," it further said.

The advisory asked Americans to consider the level of security present when visiting public places, including religious sites, or choosing hotels, restaurants, entertainment and recreation venues. (ANI)
