CBI blows lid of a sex racket in Mumbai
Mumbai, May 28 (ANI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) busted a sex racket in Mumbai and arrested eight persons as well as rescued 34 girls who had been forcefully pushed into the flesh trade.
This was disclosed by Rishi Raj Singh, the Joint Director of CBI, Western Region while addressing a press conference here on Wednesday.
He said that during their raid at different places in the city and Vashi, the CBI was successful in arresting five traffickers namely Vitthal Patil, Raju, Najunda Gowda, Ranjeet and Rajendra who were indulging in trafficking minor girls from places like Assam, West Bengal and also from across the border from Bangladesh.
"The social workers were sent as customers. The deal was done at Hotel Kuber in Vashi as customers had told that a lot of people will be coming and later received tips of 34 girls, involved in the racket," said Rishi Raj Singh.
Reportedly, the pimps used to lodge the girls in inhuman conditions. These also included places like godowns located at different places in the city.
The pimps used to provide pick-up service to transfer the girls to the customers.
The CBI sleuths seized rupees 4,80,000 from the spot and this amount is believed to be the earnings of the girls through this illegal activity at Sindhi Colony in Vashi.
"When we raided and searched the place in Sindhi Colony, we rescued 13 girls and recovered rupees 4,80,000. During the inquiry, we found out that that it was the earning of the girls, out of prostitution, which were not given to them," Singh added.
Reportedly, the racket had been in operation for the past three years.
In the guise of providing them employment, these girls were lured and then inducted into the flesh trade. (ANI)
