Military offensive against Taliban to take two-three weeks more: Pak minister
Berlin May.7 (ANI): The military offensive against the Taliban in the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) of Pakistan would continue for two to three weeks more, as Islamabad has said that it needed more time to flush out the extremists completely from the region.
Addressing a joint press conference with his German counterpart Franz Josef Jung, Pakistan Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar said Islamabad wants to root out the extremists from its soil completely.
"The Buner operation will finish within two to three weeks. We have to ensure that these guerrillas are defeated," The Dawn quoted Mukhtar, as saying.
The Pakistan Army had initiated the offensive against the Taliban and other extremist groups in the Buner and Lower Dir region of the NWFP, after the militants refused to lay down arms and stop their advance in accordance with the Swat peace deal. (ANI)
