Seven killed in extremist attack in Assam
Guwahati, Apr 20 (ANI): Seven persons, including five Assam Police Battalion personnel, were killed when DHD (Jewel) extremists attacked on a convoy of Vinay Cement Factory in troubled North Cachar Hill District on Monday afternoon.
According to police, the incident occurred when a team of 5th Assam Police Battalion (APBN) was escorting trucks carrying cements from Umrangshu to Lanka in neighbouring Nowgong district.
Suddenly, the extremists hiding in the jungles fire indiscriminately on the convoy party between Kalanala and Panimur under Doyungmukh police station at about 12.30 p.m., killing the seven people on spot.
Besides the policemen, the civilian driver of the escort vehicle and his helper were also gunned down by the ultras.
The extremists also took away five rifles including four A.K-47 rifles of the slain police personnel.
Massive combing operation is on to nab the extremists. (ANI)
