Obamas using own money to renovate White House

New York, April 12 (ANI): The Obamas are using their own money to renovate the White House, forgoing the 100,000 dollars in federal funds that is traditionally allotted to new presidents for such renovation projects.

First Lady Michelle Obama''s communications director Camille Johnston said that the Obamas, who are worth millions, will pay to overhaul the White House residence from their own pockets.

"The Obamas have determined now is not the time to use taxpayer funds and they will not be accepting any donations," the New York Daily News quoted Johnston, as saying.

The Obamas recently spent a few thousand dollars of their own to pay for a South Lawn swing set for daughters Malia and Sasha.

They have hired pricey Hollywood decorator Michael S. Smith to redesign the interior of the Executive Mansion. (ANI)
