White tigress gives birth to three cubs in Tamil Nadu
Vandalur (Tamil Nadu), Apr 9 (ANI): Project Tiger has received a further boost with the announcement of a five-year-old tigress giving birth to three cubs at the Arignar Anna zoo, which is located 31 kilometres from Chennai.
The tigress named Anusuya delivered three cubs, out of which one died.
Visitors to the zoo expressed their delight at getting a glimpse of the tigress and her cubs.
According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), there are only about 4,000 tigers left in the world, of these over a thousand are said to be in India.
White tigers are rare because they suffer from a genetic condition that strips their fur of the orange pigment, leaving the animal with snow-white fur, black stripes and blue eyes. (ANI)
