Rajnath Singh to meet Varun at Etah District Jail today
Etah (UP), Apr 6 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh will meet Varun Gandhi at the Etah District Jail later in the day.
Varun, who is a BJP candidate from the Pilibhit parliamentary constituency, got mired in a controversy for his alleged anti-Muslim speech during an election campaign in Pilibhit.
Meanwhile, BJP leaders expressed anguish over invoking the National Security Act (NSA) against Varun.
BJP leader Arun Shourie said that Varun has more understanding than the Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi.
Senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj also came to support Varun, saying Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati's decision to invoke the NSA against Varun was unacceptable for her party.
Earlier, party Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu had alleged that Varun had been harassed and tortured in the jail. He claimed that Varun was implicated under a conspiracy of the BSP and the Congress.
Naidu also accused the Uttar Pradesh Government of manipulating the CD containing Varun's speech. (ANI)
