NWFP Government signs pact on 'sharia' enforcement in Swat
Peshawar, Feb. 15 (ANI): The North West Frontier Province Government has signed a pact with Tehreek-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat Muhammadi leader Maulana Sufi Muhammad on the implementation of 'sharia' in the Swat Valley's Malakand division.
The agreement was signed after a meeting on the issue here, the Daily Times reports.
According to the agreement, Sufi Muhammad will try to build a consensus among people through his congregations in the region, while the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) leader Fazlullah would announce ceasefire in the Swat region.
It was also agreed that all girls' schools in the area would be re-opened, and Sufi Muhammad would help establish a strong administration in the area.
The paper quoted sources as claiming that the NWFP Government would announce the implementation of 'sharia' in Malakand after getting "go ahead" from the federal government.
The government has convened a meeting of political parties, provincial assembly members from Swat and members of the provincial cabinet in Peshawar to decide on the issue.
NWFP Government would present the draft sharia law before the convention to gather suggestions on the implementation of sharia in Malakand. (ANI)
