Victorian MP sues Greek female for 10 million dollars over rape charge

Melbourne, Jan.25 (ANI): Victorian MP and former minister Theo Theophanous has filed a 10 million dollar criminal damages claim against the woman accusing him of rape.

According to the Sunday Herald Sun, Theophanous's lawyers filed the claim in the Kalamata District Court, in southern Greece, last week.

Documents show the 45-year-old woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was served a summons at her Kalamata residence.

She has been ordered to face court on October 15 or meet with Theophanous's lawyers on June 27 to discuss a settlement.

Theophanous is asking for 10 million dollars, which he has promised to Greek and Australian charities should the claim succeed.

In Greece, it is illegal to falsely accuse someone of a crime.

The Sunday Herald Sun contacted the woman, but she refused to comment. (ANI)
