3 Aussies hospitalised after taking Chinese erection drug

Melbourne, Jan 14 (ANI): A Chinese erection pill, touted to be the sure shot therapy to enhance sexual function, has landed three people in hospital, as it turned out potentially harmful for them.

According to reports by the Northern Territory News, the patients, two men and a woman, were all admitted to Royal Darwin Hospital in the past two months after taking Nangen Zengzhangsu.

The incident has led the Health Department to re-issue a warning that these pills could lead to a diabetic coma, permanent brain injury or death.

It is believed that at least one of the patients have been in a serious condition after taking the pills.

Reports suggest that the medication, also known as Nangen, has been imported from Asia or sourced from the Internet.

Available for 10 dollars a pill on a UK website, the medicine is marketed on as 100 per cent herbal, but contains ingredients like donkey kidney and deer antler.

Nangen has been claimed to be a natural alternative to Viagra with no side effects, but it may also contain Glibenclamide, a prescription medication used to treat diabetes.

Chief Health Officer Barbara Paterson revealed that the three patients suffered from shaking, confusion, dizziness, and low blood sugar.

"It is important that members of the public do not take such medicines. If you have taken this product and you develop these symptoms you should seek urgent medical attention," News.com.au quoted Paterson as saying. (ANI)
